2004 Legacy Sale
The Legacy Reining Breeders Sale was held October 16, 2004 at Green Valley Ranch in Aubrey, Texas. The fourth annual sale once again exceeded expectations-offering stellar horses from some of the best breeders in the business, amid a fun filled family atmosphere. The Legacy Reining Breeders group of McQuay Stables, Tom McCutcheon, Scott McCutcheon, Dell Hendricks, and Gary Putnam, along with guest consigners Kebra Ranch and TLC Farms, sold a total of 64 head for an average price of $15,226.19. Topping the sale for a second time was Smart Great Dude. Offered as Lot #1 as part of the TLC Farms dispersal, the three-year-old stallion sold for $98,000 to Tom and Mandy McCutcheon. Tom McCutcheon had shown the sorrel stallion, sired by Smart Starbuck and out of Miss Great Dude, to a top placing at the Tulsa Classic Futurity earlier in the fall. Future plans call for McCutcheon to show Smart Great Dude at the SWRHA and NRHA Futurities. Jimmy Pierce of North Carolina purchased the second highest selling horse of the sale, Hollywood Aces, for $55,000. A son of NRHA $2 Million Dollar Sire Hollywood Dun It and out of Docs Miss Ace, the buckskin yearling colt was consigned by Dell Hendricks. Plans for the colt include continuing his education with the trainer. “This is a really nice colt,” said Hendricks after the sale. “So I am excited that Jimmy bought the horse and that I get to keep him in training.”
NRHA Hall of Famer Bob Loomis also went home with a handful of high sellers, including the high selling mare, Bosses Reminic. Consigned by McQuay Stables, the yearling palomino filly by 2-time NRBC Champion Reminic N Dunit and out of Boss Sugar Bars sold for $51,000. Loomis also purchased Moms Little Prize (BH Enterprise x Looks Like Mom) a 1991 broodmare consigned by Kyle Ranch for $40,000 and Hollywoods Stunt Girl (Hollywood Dun It x Expressive Gold), another 1991 broodmare he purchased through the TLC Farms dispersal for $23,500. Other high sellers included lot #66, Lil Ruf N Smart. A son of Lil Ruf Peppy and out of Smart Alice, the blaze faced sorrel stallion sold for $33,000 to Joan Julen of Minnesota.
In addition to the sale action, buyers enjoyed a welcome party held at Green Valley Ranch Friday night before the sale. The get together was a big hit, complete with food, drinks, and live entertainment from country singer Austin Cunningham. Saturday afternoon before the sale, the Ranch also hosted a lunch supplied by Rudy’s Barbeque. Adding to the family atmosphere was an arts & crafts room for kids, as well as an air filled jump room. “This year’s sale was truly an event,” said Tom McCutcheon after the sale. “With everything the Winegars did to enhance the sale, it was really a first class endeavor.” New owners of Green Valley Ranch, Jane and Wallis Winegar, were active participants in the success of the sale. Since taking over ownership of the Ranch, they have been adding to the already impressive 200 acre setup, with the addition of a new show barn, offices, a covered round pen, and air-conditioned stalls. Green Valley Ranch is home to trainers Brent Loseke and Tom McCutcheon. For more information about the annual Legacy Reining Breeders Sale, and full sale results, please visit www.LegacySale.com.
