A month later, he again tied to win the NRHA Open Futurity Championship with Brent Wright in the saddle, and eventually was named the Open Futurity Reserve Champion.

During his four year old season, Custom Pistol was the NRBC Open Classic Reserve Championship, and then the NRHA Open Derby Champion with Wright. He continued his winning ways the next year by placing in the top 5 at the 2004 NRHA Open Derby, and winning the 2003 Canadian Reining Breeders Classic Open Derby Reserve Championship.
